Volunteer Needs Right Now

Can you help us with some basic admin tasks?

At the start of a semester, there are some necessary basic tasks we need to get done all in a short timeframe. These include things like printing and binding journals, getting class start-up checklists ready, and grading CASAS tests. 

Can you spare us an hour or two to help with our most pressing admin needs? We can't promise you the most scintillating time you've ever spent, but we CAN promise you many smiles, fresh coffee or tea, and our most abundant gratitude!

Can you help at the Wilcrest front desk?

front desk helpLight duties (answering phones, greeting people as they come in), friendly atmosphere, and training provided.

Spanish speaker preferred, but not necessary - we just want friendly faces and reliable helpers!

Regular shifts needed for busy times:
Mondays 4pm – 8pm
Tuesdays 5pm – 8pm
Wednesdays 1pm – 5pm
Wednesdays 5pm – 8pm
Thursdays 5pm – 8pm
Fridays 8am – 12pm
Saturdays 8am – 3pm

Admin/Office/Student Help

Can you lead Student Registration sessions?

Our Student Registration sessions are crucial first steps for any new adult student wishing to take free classes at Literacy Advance. In a 2-hour session, new students fill out basic paperwork, learn about Literacy Advance, and take a short placement test (CASAS appraisal) to help us work out their literacy level and place them in the correct class.

We're looking for new leaders! Can you spare a few hours to help new students come aboard? Training is provided, and staff are always close by to help if there are questions. We hold multiple New Student Registration sessions per semester, but how often you get involved is entirely up to you.

Friday, February 1, 10 am - 12 pm

Wednesday, February 6, 6 pm  - 8 pm

Saturday, February 9, 1 pm - 3 pm 

Wednesday, February 13, 6 pm - 8 pm

Friday, February 15, 10 am - 12 pm

Saturday, February 23, 1 pm -  3 pm
