Support from across the community, and partnerships with many different organizations and businesses, make the growth and success of our literacy programs possible.
Literacy Advance has many Outreach Program Partnerships, allowing literacy classes to take place at other locations and people who would otherwise not be served to enroll in classes. Partners include Houston-area schools, non-profits and other agencies dedicated to the well-being of the community.
Program Sponsors help make it all happen! We are very grateful for their ongoing assistance; their donations and support help sponsor interns, start new programs, extend our reach in the community and transform lives and communities through the doorway of literacy.
Literacy Advance is proud to be affiliated with, or accredited through, a number of other organizations. We thank these affiliates for their endorsement and support!
Since being founded in 1936, Goya has received awards and recognitions for its social responsibility and worldwide support of over 250 non-profit organizations that promote and sustain community wellness and the advancement of the Hispanic culture. The company has also donated millions of pounds of food to victims of various disasters worldwide including Hurricanes Sandy, Isaac, and Irene, and the earthquakes in Haiti and Ecuador.
In 2011, President Barack Obama honored Goya for its continued success and commitment to the Hispanic community, the only company to ever be so honored by the president. The following year, Goya collaborated with First Lady Michelle Obama and the USDA to launch MyPlate/ MiPlato campaign, a national health initiative to help educate Americans on how to eat healthy.
Goya has been a Literacy Advance supporter since 2010, sponsoring the Reader Cup, Larry Dierker's Celebrity Golf Tournament for some years before also supporting Scrabble in the City.
In 2016, Goya added sponsorship of our Opening Opportunities Breakfast, expanding their support even further.
Thank you Goya for your steadfast commitment to literacy in Houston!
