Support from across the community, and partnerships with many different organizations and businesses, make the growth and success of our literacy programs possible.
Literacy Advance has many Outreach Program Partnerships, allowing literacy classes to take place at other locations and people who would otherwise not be served to enroll in classes. Partners include Houston-area schools, non-profits and other agencies dedicated to the well-being of the community.
Program Sponsors help make it all happen! We are very grateful for their ongoing assistance; their donations and support help sponsor interns, start new programs, extend our reach in the community and transform lives and communities through the doorway of literacy.
Literacy Advance is proud to be affiliated with, or accredited through, a number of other organizations. We thank these affiliates for their endorsement and support!
The H-E-B Tournament of Champions was established in 1986 when Decker Food Company asked H-E-B Grocery Co. to invite a few of their market vendors to play in a golf tournament and donate the proceeds to Special Olympics Texas. The President of Decker Foods was the Chairman of the Board for Special Olympics Texas at that time. The event raised $38,500. The following year the event raised $78,000 and in 2016 $8.4 million – a new record!
Over the past 31 years, this event has raised over $90 million dollars benefiting Special Olympics Texas and other worthwhile organizations that focus on children, youth and education throughout the State of Texas.
In 2003 the H-E-B Tournament of Champions Charitable Trust was established and the event became a 501(c)3 tax exempt private foundation under the Internal Revenue codes.
Thank you H-E-B Tournament of Champions for your ongoing support - since 2009! - for the students and families at Literacy Advance!
