Literacy Advance of Houston prepares for Scrabble and the City Event
May 17, 2012 (Houston, Texas) - The Board and staff of Literacy Advance of Houston hosted a VIP Kickoff reception at V21 Shot Bar & Grille on Washington Avenue for its upcoming Scrabble and the City event.
More than 75 guests packed the house at the relatively new, hip Heights venue to sample custom “Scrabbletinis,” spicy hummus, gigantic shrimp wontons, a delectable vodka-infused bruschetta and assorted flatbreads.
Melanie Fisk, Executive Director of Literacy Advance, urged everyone at the gathering to sharpen their Scrabble skills and even showed off a Scrabble practice table for rookies. The third annual Scrabble and the City will be held on September 13 at Saint Arnold Brewing Company.
The crowd included sponsors, host committee members, board members and potential competitors. Caught having fun were: V21’s General Manager Joe Hausner, Max Cameau (Merrill Lynch), Jonathan Fisher (Brand Extract), Sarah and Jonathan Rhoads, Larry and Christine Stuart (Stuart PC), Andrea Shiloh (Wells Fargo), Kimberli Bowman, Jason Brown, Donna Boyer (Marathon Oil), John DeLeon (iDJ Sounds), Ashok Garg (Allied Exports), John and Christina Dyer, Sally Dwyer (USI), Joanne Ericksen (The Ericksen Law Firm), Ellen Elam (OfficeEffects), Rosario Spinoso (Taxis Fiesta/Yellow Cab), and former NFLer Ellis Wyms.
